Concerns - Copper premiums could be pushed higher as supply concerns emerge

Vale’s plans to expand production at its Carajás iron ore mine in northern Brazil to 130 million tpy from 100 million tpy is likely not to be complete in the second half of 2009 as anticipated, the company’s investor relations director Roberto Castello Branco told analysts during a conference call.

Producers, consumers and traders in the ferro-alloys and minor metals businesses are getting to grips with the London Metal Exchange as it canvasses them about the contracts it may be able to offer, perhaps from next year.
